WHALES

Went whale watching yesterday....lots of pictures of where whales just were! It is very exciting to be here at this time, the peak of the whales migration from Alaska to this mating and birthing spot. We were told that at any given moment at this time of year there are 2000 - 3000 whales in these waters. Indeed, it is hard to look out over the horizon for more than about 5 minutes without seeing whale blows.

When there seemed to be no whales in site the boat's naturalist lowered an amphibian mike so we could hear the males singing. Astounding! They were all around us.
