La Foce, Italy...the formal garden

Please go to www.lafoce.com and follow the links. There is much to know about this incredibly beautiful and blessedly serene part of Tuscany.
I have just finished reading a book written by Iris Origo who, along with her husband Antonio reclaimed this estate - at one time close to 50,000 acres - in 1924. The books is of the war years 1943 and 1944. It was a stunning read of courage and generosity in the face of devastation and cruelty beyond my imagination.
Above are some shots of the house and garden of the owners.
So enchanted we are by this place that we have booked for another week. Our apartment will no longer available so we will move to another that ( can it be?) appears to be even more beguiling.
Hope to post more on Sunday.
