And then.....

Two and a half months have flown. We are now thinking a lot about how much we look forward to the next time in SF as we see our departure this time just two weeks off.
So, here, before we leave is a bit more SF IS.
SF IS......or rather was earlier in the month, a city scape from the fire escape - the new moon with the first star of the night hugging it's edges.

Journeys School, Jackson, WY
Considering the fact that I shot these images in December before coming over to San Francisco in January, it is probably a good idea that I wind up this segment. Here then is a studious mix
of Journeys students with one music class included. The music class that day was taught by a local folk singer, Pete Sibley.
Pete and his wife, Ann, have a great following in Jackson - as they should!
( ring any bells, J?)
Stay tuned: I will continue with SF IS... images. With less than 3 weeks here I best get to work!

Journeys School, Jackson, WY
Lunch at Journeys is brought from home except on Fridays and/special days. On these special days there is a buffet of hot food, fresh veggies , fruit and cookies. The buffet is entirely manned by volunteers. The lovely pony tailed lady above is Jean. She has a grandchild at Journeys and is one of Journey's staunchest volunteer and supporter. She also has a great admirer in me!

Science projects are the norm for Journeys School, offspring of Teton Science Schools, www.tetonscienceschools.org, and often are intricate and well thought out. On a day that I was shooting , these projects were on display for invited guests. Guests were not only parents and friends of parents but students from other classes in the school. The students had to explain the concept behind the project to all who asked. It is moving to me to watch the confidence in their understanding and ability to present.

Journeys School, Jackson, WY
A journey to the library. Place based education takes advantage of community offerings, as seen above at the Teton County Library. It also gives generously to the community. All Journeys students, at some point in their education, do "community time". Very often the community time leads to the students Capstone presentation when graduating.

journeys School, Jackson, WY
A significant element of the school is found in it's name - Journeys. It is place based education, that is to say, learning on site either in the community of Jackson itself or in the further afield. As kids get older the journeys get further away with high school students frequently doing global studies.
Above are middle school students ( and in the water polo shot teachers as well ) at the Jackson Rec Center for PE.
